Dancing into the Savior's Arms
October 31, 2012
I love you mama,
Kneeling down on my knees,
I cannot escape the tears,
Are you ready to run into the Savior’s arms?
How I long to touch you,
To speak sweet words of love into your ear.
Reservations are quickly made,
I board the northbound plane,
Willing the pilot to take me to your side.
Random thoughts as I traveled,
Wondering what the day would hold,
Knowing the inevitable that surely lay ahead.
The kind nurse wrapped her arm around me,
“Your Mama's been waiting for you,"
She escorted me to the form of you I hardly recognized.
Labored breaths, closed eyes, Did you know I was here?
Stroking your beautiful hair, I whispered love into your ear.
The long night passed so quickly,
As I struggled to find some rest,
The morning light came early, the dawn of your last day.
The hours passed slowly,
As songs were sung and scriptures read,
I lay my head on your chest, counting between each breath.
The time was so near,
Holding you in my arms,
Waiting for one journey to end and another to begin.
The fullness of my sorrow,
Soaking the pillow with my tears.
“Hug Nanny and Miss Mary for me,
Dance before the King in delight.”
One more kiss, one more hug,
Only a few words left to say,
“Thank you, Mom, for giving me life
And faith and for being my friend.”
The tears paused on my cheeks,
Laying my head on your chest,
I listened for one last beat of your heart.
Glimpsing the nurse standing in the wings,
Somber and sure, she nodded her head.
The body without a soul,
Gone to a heavenly place,
With no more night and no more pain.
Flight from the temporal to an eternal sphere,
Your love forever in my heart.
As you joyfully dance into the Savior’s arms.
