Just Hold Me & Love Me
Adversity is a personal unique experience. Until you have traveled that road (and even the same road may hold varying turns and twists for each person), no real understanding exists. What your friend needs is simply a hand to hold, a shoulder to lean upon and words of encouragement. I want to hear these messages: You are brave; you are resilient; you are valued; you are loved. When thoughts of distress and helplessness become overwhelming, that touch and those words buoy the spirit from the pits to a foothold on the mountain.
Don’t bring anger to the table or fear. Please leave criticism and doubt at the door. Bring me light and laughter. Bring me hope and the assurance that today is one of life, no matter the level of pain or sorrow. Remind me that there is always a reason to look up and look out. Make me smile and see the world outside, not simply one sitting on the inside looking out.
When frustration builds and tears can no longer be contained in the wells of my soul, just hold me and let me cry. Words aren’t necessary and action isn’t required, just the arms of one who loves me and accepts me unconditionally. As the deepest breath is exhaled and only a few tears left to wet my eyelids, simple words start the healing. “I love you just as you are. I will always love you.”
Closing my eyes, I soak in those words and the warm touch of arms wrapped around me. I search for the eyes of the one who spoke to me so lovingly and am reassured that I am not alone. Together we will climb this mountain and one day hand in hand watch the colors of the sunrise from the highest peak. I am grateful for love. I am filled with hope. Morning is coming.
“Weeping may remain for a night, but rejoicing comes in the morning.” Psalm 30:5
